Emilia Calvo from Spain - Interview

She has always been interested in baking and art, and has specialized in flower-making thanks to which she has won various awards and prizes. By being part of this collaboration she has discovered the many facets of Pakistani Art, and it was really difficult to choose an inspiration. She chose and is really honored to be part of this wonderful collaboration because it is so vibrant and colorful. By being part of this she has learnt that Peacocks symbolize many things to the driver in Pakistan. They are an epitome of beauty (since the Mughal Queens used their feathers as accessories), they're also a hark back to the land from where the driver originated. They also symbolize the pride of the driver in his truck. She has used Satin Ice fondant and gumpaste, sugarflair pigments in this creation.

Emily is originally from London, UK, but she been living in Spain for 31 years. She used to have a delicatessen in England, and that's where her love of all things sweet began. She teaches English, which she combines with the pleasure of creating flowers of all kinds. She has a very inquisitive mind and loves to experiment. She enjoys challenging projects and finds inspiration practically everywhere although her favorite places are in nature and garden centres.

She based her piece on the work carried out by designer Bink who runs Pearls and Swine, a company that makes surreal hats and avant-garde hair accessories. I wanted to combine fondant, gum paste and rice paper to get different textures and airy feeling to the cake.
